Cleaning source photos before Layout is useful and not sufficient . Layout’s save is a new encode. One source with Gemini C2PA can be baked into a flatten that also gets new software XMP.
Dirty inputs, dirty flatten
Typical tiles people drop into Layout:
- Gemini / Krea download
- Facetune or Meitu beauty save
- Lightroom AI Denoise export
- WhatsApp-saved “the good one”
Layout does not strip those tags for you. The flatten can keep them, drop EXIF only, or add Instagram/Layout software fields. Instagram AI Info is scored on that one flatten , not on the four tiles you remember cleaning. Inspect the export you will post , which may be in Photos as “Layout” or a new Edited copy.
After save, iOS often keeps two near-duplicates: the flatten and an “Edited” derivative. Instagram’s picker shows the pretty one. Confirm file size and date, or you will attach the uncleaned sibling.
Standalone Layout from Instagram (the old companion app) and in-feed / Story collage templates both flatten. The last save is the master either way. If you flatten in Layout then open the result in Canva for a caption bar, that Canva export is a new file - Canva article plus this page’s flatten rule: clean last .
Workflow
- Optional: clean source tiles first if you still have them (reduces baked-in C2PA).
- Build Layout. Export/save once .
- Inspect the flatten in the AI metadata checker .
- Strip C2PA and XMP on that file.
- Post that file (feed or Story). Do not apply another in-app generative effect and re-save.
- If you also post a carousel of the same originals , those are different files - carousel article.
Reels cover using a Layout flatten: still a still upload. Reels cover from camera roll if you pick it from Photos.
What this page does not cover
- Carousel slide order and “one dirty slide.”
- Canva / Meitu collages as the last export.
- Settings toggles.
When the Layout flatten is what Instagram will ingest, strip C2PA/XMP on that raster, then finish on the Instagram upload-prep tool . Browser-only; prep, not a Layout setting.

Post an Instagram Layout collage without leftover file tags
Flatten in Layout, export that one raster, strip C2PA/XMP, upload that file.
- Finish the collage - Complete Layout / in-app collage. Export or save the flattened JPG/PNG.
- Inspect the flatten - Optional: run the AI metadata checker (/ai-metadata-checker) on the collage file - not the four source photos.
- Strip C2PA and XMP - Clean the flattened export in the browser.
- Upload that file - Feed, Story, or cover from the cleaned collage only. Do not re-open Layout on the cleaned copy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is an Instagram Layout collage the same as a carousel?
No. A carousel uploads several files. Layout/collage flattens several photos into one raster Instagram then ingests as a single still (feed, Story, or Reels cover).
I cleaned every source photo. Why did the collage get AI Info?
The collage export is a new file. Instagram’s Layout/collage save can re-encode and write software tags. Clean the flattened export, not only the inputs.
Is this a Canva collage tutorial?
No. Canva flatten lives on the Canva export article. This page is Instagram’s own Layout / in-app collage tools.
Meitu collage vs Instagram Layout?
Meitu writes its own XMP on collage export. That is the Meitu article. Here the last app is Instagram Layout. Remove AI Label Team
