- 1 Upload image →
- 2 Read metadata scan →
- 3 Clean or rule out tags
Upload a photo to see whether file metadata still carries AI provenance - or whether a clean scan suggests pixel watermarks / platform classifiers instead.
Read-only, browser-only. This is not a SynthID detector or invisible-watermark remover.
Metadata diagnosis vs watermark removal
Searchers often mix three different problems: embedded C2PA/XMP (file tags), invisible pixel watermarks (SynthID-style), and platform visual classifiers (no tag in the file). This page only diagnoses the first - what your browser can read locally.
Use it when you already ran a remover but Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook still show AI Info: “Is something still in the file, or is the label coming from elsewhere?”
How to read the results
- AI tags found - Open the AI-only metadata remover to strip provenance while keeping camera EXIF on JPEG
- No AI tags - Metadata is unlikely the trigger; read the disclaimer on pixel watermarks and re-upload rules (screenshots, forwards)
- Re-check after every export - WhatsApp, cloud previews, and editor re-saves can re-embed or strip data
- Still labeled with a clean file? - We cannot scan SynthID; consider a fresh export or platform appeal paths outside this tool
What this checker does not do
- Does not detect or remove SynthID / invisible steganography
- Does not run cloud “is this AI art?” pixel classifiers
- Does not guarantee future platform policy changes
- Does not replace the C2PA checker when you need signature verification detail
Checker → AI-only clean → upload
Typical fix path when metadata is the culprit: scan here, clean with AI-only mode if C2PA or XMP AI entries appear, confirm with the metadata checker , then upload the downloaded master - not a chat forward or platform re-compress.
For generator PNGs with no camera EXIF, the full AI metadata remover is often simpler.
PDF attachments
Deck or portfolio PDFs carry separate Document Info - images inside are not cleaned when you strip the PDF wrapper.
FAQ
Is this an AI watermark remover?
No. It is a read-only metadata scanner. Removing tags requires the linked remover tools. Invisible watermarks are outside scope.
I cleaned metadata but Instagram still shows AI Info - why?
Either residual tags in a different file (story vs feed), re-compression from a messenger, pixel/classifier signals, or platform-side history. Use this checker on the exact bytes you upload.
AI watermark checker vs AI image checker?
Both read file metadata locally. This page emphasizes post-clean diagnosis and non-metadata causes; the AI image checker targets pre-upload scans.
Does a clean scan guarantee no label?
No. It only rules out readable AI provenance in the file you tested.
